Gabriela Dabrowski of Ottawa and her Brazilian partner Luisa Stefani advanced to the doubles semifinals of the Wuhan Open on Friday with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Mexico’s Giuliana Olmos and Estonia’s Ingrid Neel.
The top seeds committed 22 unforced errors and faced nine break points in the match. They saved seven of those break points and converted three of the six break-point chances they created against Olmos and Neel.
Dabrowski and Stefani will meet fifth seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez of the United States and Cristina Bucsa of Spain in Saturday’s semifinals at the WTA 1000 tournament.
The Canadian-Brazilian pairing arrives in the semifinals on the back of a 6-1, 6-2 upset of top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Zhang Shuai in last week’s China Open final.
That victory gave Dabrowski and Stefani their fifth title of the season and their seventh as a team.
